Helping Heart Counseling was created in May 2001 during my last year in graduate school working on a Master's of Education Degree from Carson Newman College in Marriage and Family Therapy. Upon completion of my master's degree, I worked as an Alcohol & Drug Outpatient Therapist with Helen Ross McNabb from April 2002 through November 2005. During that same time I worked part time as a family therapist with Corryton Baptist Church.
In March 2005, I opened a private practice to better serve families and individuals of the Halls Community, Fountain City, Powell area and other areas north of Knoxville, TN. I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist(LMFT) with the State of Tennessee and also a Clinical Member of the AAMFT-American Association of Marriage & Family Therapist. I use many types of therapy in working with families and individuals to include Clinical Hypnosis and Play Therapy with children. All areas of helping individuals, couples, and families find health and well-being are my focus.
As well as accepting cash/check payments for her services, Cindy now accepts Cigna, Humana(Cariten), LifeSynch, LifeSynch-EAP Provider, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Magellan, American Behavorial, Humana-TriCare, Value Options-TriCare, Behavioral Health-TriCare, Managed Health Network-TriCare, Beech Street-Viant Network, Multiplan Network/PHCS Network, and is currently pursing acceptance of other Insurance Plans. Many Insurance Providers have their Behavioral Health Benefits managed by another company you can see this on the back of your insurance card or contact your provider directly. It is best to contact Cindy directly to determine if your insurance plan covers her services.

Jeff Scarbrough, MA
Jeff Scarbrough is currently working with Helping Heart Counseling & Associates as a Marriage & Family Intern, able to work with Individuals, Couples, Families in a Therapeutic Environment as he pursue completion of the clinical requirements in order to obtain his Licensure as a Marital & Family Therapist with the State of TN.
Jeff has experience in the helping field for four years, has worked at the Parkridge Valley Hospital in Chattanooga, TN with impatient adolescents, has worked in local schools with adolescents and individuals, couples, and families through the Community Counseling Center @ Psychological Studies Institute. Jeff is currently working in a full-time capacity with Helen Ross McNabb as a therapist with the Adult Center as well as beginning to build a Private Practice in the Knoxville, TN area. Clients will be scheduled with Jeff for sessions in the evenings or on Saturdays.
Jeff obtained his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga,TN with a (major) in Psychology and a (minor) in Bible. Upon completion of his BS degree he pursued his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Psychological Studies Institute which is now Richmont Graduate University of Chattanooga, TN.

Gene Marie Rutkauskas, MS, LADAC, NCACII
Gene Marie Rutkauskas is a Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor practicing in Knoxville and Halls Cross Roads, TN. Gene has been providing these service for 20 + years. Gene's educational credentials include a B.A. in Psychology from the University of TN, Knoxville (1997) and a Masters Degree in Psychology with a specialization in addiction psychology from Capella University (200). In addition to Gene's Tennessee State Licensure as a LADAC she is also has a Nationally Certified Addictions Counselor Level II (NCACII).
Gene is currently employed full-time with the Helen Ross McNabb Center in Knoxville, TN providing outpatient alcohol/drug counseling with the Young Adult Program at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. Gene, in addition, consults to provide workshops, training and education about alcohol/other drug disorders and compulsive gambling. She has provided these services in East TN and Nashville for local, state and national participants.
In the recent years Gene has offered part-time services in a private practice the West area of Knoxville, TN and has recently relocated to become an Associate in the Helping Heart Counseling & Associates Practice.

Brett Gleason, LPC, NCC
Brett Gleason LPC-MHSP, NCC received his B.A. in Psychology from Carson-Newman College and his M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Brett is a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) in the state of Tennessee, National Certified Counselor (NCC) and is also member of the Tennessee Counseling Association.
Brett has experience working with individuals, couples and families in private practice at Ebenezer Counseling Services. Brett has also worked with children, adolescents and their families in school and residential settings with Child and Family Tennessee and Camelot Schools. Most recently Brett worked with adults experiencing persistent mental illness in a residential treatment setting at Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge.
Brett is available to work with children and adults, as well as couples and families. Rich Hutchins, M.A.
Rich Hutchins, MFT-MA is currently a Marriage & Family Intern with Helping Hearts Counseling & Associates. Rich works with Individuals, Couples, and Families in a Therapeutic Environment. In the course of his involvement with Helping Hearts,Rich is working toward the clinical requirements in order to obtain licensure as a Martial & Family Therapist within the State of Tennessee.
Rich has an extensive academic background, which he has worked to integrate into an effective therapeutic approach. Rich graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with both a BA in History, (minor in Religion and Philosophy) and a MA in Cultural History. After completion of his MA he pursued a second MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University.
As a part his degree program, Rich completed a 12 month practicum at Peninsula Lighthouse Intensive Outpatient Program. This entailed conducting psycho-educational, group, and individual therapy with clients dealing with addiction and mental health issues.
His understanding of the culture at large and the crises people face within the ever-changing family structure enables him to help couples and families deal with conflicts in healthy ways.
